Restorative Dentistry can repair your chipped, stained tooth, or even a missing tooth | Rochford Family Dental - Charlottetown, PEI

This is the branch of dentistry that deals with restoring your teeth so they can function properly and looking amazing again.  There are various treatment options available for restorative dentistry and treatments are based on your specific needs. Some possible treatments include:

1.  Dental Fillings.

Cavities in teeth are caused by sugar-loving plaque bacteria.  In order to fix this, the decay is removed until only the healthy tooth structure remains. The tooth is then cleaned and a white color-matched composite filling is bonded into the space.   In our office, we do not use any metal filling materials.

2. Dental Crowns / Dental Caps / Gold Tooth

A crown is a cover or cap placed over a tooth to increase the aesthetics and/or to increase the function or strength of the tooth. Crowns are made from gold, porcelain, zirconia or a combination of these materials.   Each crown is made by a lab and a color-matching photo system is used to color match your new crown to your existing teeth.

3. Dental Bridge. Replace a missing tooth without surgery

When a tooth is lost, the space that is left should be filled. This will decrease the chances of the remaining teeth shifting. Think of it like removing a book from a bookshelf, if you don’t fill the space the books will fall over. Filling the space will also increase chewing function, increase the aesthetics, and decrease the chance of future temporomandibular joint problems.
A bridge is done as a permanent fixed option to replace the missing tooth or teeth. The teeth on either side of the space are prepared and reduced and crowns/caps are placed on these teeth as supports. The missing replacement tooth are attached all as one unit effectively “bridging” the space.

4. Dental Veneers.

A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain used to fix damaged or discoloured teeth. Veneers are a great option to use because they are very conservative and only a small amount of tooth structure is prepared. Think of them as a fake fingernail for your tooth! The front of the tooth is reduced slightly and a piece of porcelain is bonded onto the front to make the tooth look more esthetically pleasing.

5. Dental Implants. Permanently replace a missing tooth

Dental implants are constructed of titanium alloy and placed into the roots of your missing teeth. The bone and gum tissues will heal and grow around the implant, holding it firmly in place. A crown is then placed on top of the implant to complete your new smile. Dental implants are highly stable, natural looking and long lasting.
