Remember when the words “root canal” were enough to strike fear into the heart of the bravest of us? Well, that was a long time ago! Modern day root canals and endodontics care are efficient, effective, and less trouble than ever.
A root canal is needed when a tooth is cracked or damaged, or a cavity has advanced to the interior of the tooth, introducing bacteria and infection. The root of the tooth contains a hard outer region, with an interior of blood vessels, nerves, and pulpy soft tissue. So when that interior is compromised by damage or decay, it’s necessary to get inside the tooth to clean and repair it. The root canal opens the tooth, removes the pulp, and then sterilizes and fills the tooth. This prevents further infection and any possibility of tooth loss. We normally recommend a crown as the final part of the process, in order to reinforce the tooth’s structure.
So don’t fear your root canal. At Rochford Family Dental, we’ll fix your tooth and relieve your pain and infection, leaving behind a restored and healthy tooth. Trust us with your endodontics needs!
